Employability skills…

well… i maybe slightly addicted to youtube at the moment, but i really like this video clip of a young man called Junior, who has Angelman Syndrome, developing his employability skills. It doesnt look like the most exciting job in the world, but it does show that someone with even quite complex learning difficulties can master tasks which are useful in the workplace – Junior is also profoundly deaf and has a visual impairment.

Easy symbols on the web…

… i created a blog site for some of my students, which i have to admit, i have pinched the idea of from one of my fellow students. However, it has taken a slightly different direction after some jiggery-pokery allowed me to post some symbol-supported text onto my page. Its not perfect, the sizing of the text box versus the image file doesn’t work exactly right, so you cant always read the full text – i think it varies according to browser?

However, by screen-dumping from a Clicker html and pasting into Paint, then saving the symbol text only as a jpeg, hey presto! symbol supported web pages! It is a bit crude, but being a bit simple, i’m impressed!! Plus, its almost instantaneous so its great feedback for the student!

I strongly suspect there may be some issues over copyright re the symbols? If so, i apologise now, but what else are symbols for if not for people to share their writing?

Anyway, if you want to have a look, its at www.blogict.edublogs.org . It is a bit untidy!
